Prince Faisal opens SOFEX 2014 conference

Amman, May 5 (Petra) Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein opened the tenth (10th) Special Operations Forces Conference, (SOFEX 2014), here on Monday in the presence of top military officials from Jordan and 52 countries.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. General Mishal Al Zaben delivered a keynote address in which he said that the constant challenges the world faces, and Jordan is not an exception, demand leadership, commitment, vision and cooperation.

"Throughout the years, Jordan has recognized the value of cooperation and partnerships in addressing complex security challenges. In our pursuit of a safer Jordan, and a more stable regional security environment, we have forged important and indispensable partnerships with most of the countries that you are representing today. It is with your great support that we are able to successfully confront potential threats and challenges," Zaben said.

The Armed Forces, he said, are constantly developing and implementing preventive measures that can effectively counter and respond to emerging threats and an unpredictable international security environment, adding, "Our efforts aim to ensure national security readiness and bring peace of mind to our citizens and neighbours." "The security and peace we have been enjoying is primarily due to our Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) and strong and empowered security organizations and as a result of the close support and continuous supervision of the Supreme Commander, King Abdullah II," he added.

The army chief also spoke about the sixth Annual Warrior Competition held at the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center, known as KASOTC. "Elite Special Operations Forces, and law enforcement teams, from Jordan, the region, and around the world, convene every year at KASOTC to participate in the Warrior Competition and are given the rare opportunity to visit and train at one of the world’s most advanced combat training facilities," he said.

Meanwhile, Director General of SOFEX Amer Tabba said that the event, which is held every two years, is one of the success stories in Jordan. SOFEX, he added, brings together key world leaders from regional and international governments and militaries with industry experts from every corner of the globe to nurture and strengthen relations, share best practices, and develop partnerships in promoting peace and providing security for all citizens.

The knowledge and experience presented at SOFEX are inspiring. "Our challenge, our sacred duty, is to harness this opportunity to synergistically unite our capabilities in order to secure and protect our borders and to bring peace, security and prosperity to the global community," Tabba told the conferees.

During the conference sessions, which were chaired by Saudi Prince Sultan bin Khalid Al Faisal, the former head of the Saudi Marine Special Operations Forces, participants highlighted the role of the Special Forces and the need for concerted efforts to fight terrorism.
